Proxmox deploy: sane defaults, storage layout, and what I changed

My baseline Proxmox install: bridges, storage, and the changes that prevent future pain.

What I did

  • Installed Proxmox with a clean naming scheme for nodes, pools, and backups.
  • Configured Linux bridge networking (vmbr) with a predictable IP plan.
  • Separated OS, VM storage, and backups (so upgrades don’t turn into a crime scene).
  • Documented rollback steps + what to check before and after updates.

Notes

This is written as a real log — configs, mistakes, and the “why.” If you want the raw screenshots/config snippets, ping me on LinkedIn.
